I am a native of the State of Oklahoma and work for a local vocational school district producing audiovisual training materials and teaching computer classes. I also formed Megabte Media Services in order to provide this web site as well as several others to the world.
Lani has been planning a trip back to her home for several years and had been asking me to go back with her for well over a year before we left. To get her to shut up about the whole deal I told her I would go if Kurt did. Little did I know she had already talked him into going. Anyway, next thing I know, I was committed to go. I have traveled to many locations in the United States and Mexico but never anything like this trip. I found the Filipino culture and in fact the entire trip so far out of the ordinary for any vacation that I have ever experienced that I just had to share it with the world.
Before leaving for the Philippines I researched the WWW for all relevant information and found very little. This lack of pertinent information combined with my inner desire to share these experiences with the world led to my decision to create this document. Ironically during the time it took to create this document many other resources about the Philippines have come up on the WWW. Even though that is the case, I think you will still find the level of factual detail and quality of photography to be a unique resource on the web.
During the trip I bought a small notebook and took notes on everything we did. Almost every spare minute we had I spend writing things down. These notes were scribbled on airplanes, buses, and jeepneys and sometimes very hard to read. I also had my trusty Minolta Maxxum 9000 camera with me and shot 12 rolls of film which I brought back to the United States.
After we returned it took over a month to translate my notes into over 55 pages of Word Perfect text about the Philippines. Kurt and Lani spent the next month poring over the text for technical and typographical content. While they were doing this I spent the second month scanning photos. Add another month for building the HTML skeleton to contain the text and another month to place the text and build the appropriate links. Over four months and countless hours later, this document is the result.
