Hi: It is my priviledge to announce to the world that I will travel to the Philippine Island in May of the year of his Lord 2000 on this earth to be joined in holy matrimony with one Sandra Peroso on the Island of Leyte. The wedding is scheduled to take place at San Miguel (St. Michael's Catholic Church)near Maasin. I have been Sandra's penpal for nearly one and one/half years now. I am completing my Masters Degree here at the University of Idaho and will then move to the Philippines to teach. I have been blessed with twelve Brothers and sisters in law. Someone asked my why the Philippines Wolfgang. I said why not the Philippines. The Filipino women is some of the most beautiful Asian women in the world. Their intire life is about being a wife and raising their children. They are some of the most loyal and dedicated women in the world to their spouse and children. I have never met Sandra but I know her. She has never met me but she knows me. You cannot write someone several hundered letters and send picture upon picture without knowing someone. Although our age difference is substantial we will make this marriage work because of one thing. We have a mutual love and respect of our Lord. We certainly believe it is more that just a chance of fate that has put us together as soul mates for ever. We have our faith and we live our faith. This is what has us to go on. Every one is invited on June the 3rd 2000 at San Miguel Church to join in a nuptual mass with Sandra and I. With all due respect to all of you out there. Wolfgang and Sandra Schwartzenweintraub

To all the guests, poeple, and friends who have visited boracay. I also have visited too. I was there for one week, and I fell in love. With the sand, the sea, the water, and the atmosphere.I stayed at the Phillipines for about a year with my mother. I had a big family in the phillipines. My mother is half philipino, and my father american. I am half philipino, and proud. I have never seen anything so beautiful as Boracay. My five days went by so fast. I wanted to stay longer. Ive done so much in five days. I went fishing, went snorkling, had excellent food, great customer service. I even went disco dancing.Which surprised me, because it's still popular there. We had a beautiful view of the beach from my room, from the resort. We went boating to the little islands not so far away from boracay, they were pretty too. They had caves, and families would live on these those tiny islands. There was a lot of sight seeing to do. My mother and I, we did a lot shopping around the areas of boracay, and traveling around. There was a lot of greenery, woods that were deep, lonely homes with farms. All of Boracay was gorgeous. We sometimes got lost, but they had those motorcycle bike riders. I spent most of my time in the sun, the weather was warm and hot, the sand soft in your toes and so white. It only rained there once, but it wasnt so bad. The rain was acually warm, and you could acually taste the salt on your lips.I also did a lot of swimming, which I love to do. If anyone ever plans to go to Boracay. I sure do hope you have a great time. Make sure to take pictures, because the pictures always turns out beautiful with everthing, especially with the sea. Sunsets were always beautiful. Something you shouldnt miss out on. they were always so bright and colorful, and dark in some ways.Pictures are good to take, they would be good memory pictures, that a island you would miss, and go back to so bad. I would want to go back anytime. I miss everything about Boracay. Its a experience you cant miss.

I visited the Philippine Islands for the first time in Nov99 and enjoyed my trip. Manila wasn't one of my favorite places to see with all the traffic and pollution and crowd. But i enjoyed my time in the Ilocos region. I did a lot of shopping at the Laoag Marketplace and did some bargaining in Baguio. I got to experience riding in a crowded jeepney, stop a trycycle and ride in it, and see Vigan's old town from a calesa ride. It was wonderful. I even passed through the town i was born in which didn't bring back any memories for me like i hoped. Has anyone seen the Chocolate Hills in the province of Bohol? I did. They are like the Hundred Islands in Agoo, which i also visited, except on land. Cebu is my favorite of all the islands i toured. It's kind of like Manila minus the chaos. I'd be able to live there if only they could do something about that unbearable heat. Davao was also beautiful with all the greenery and the tropical plants. We had lunch at the Pearl Farm Resort on Samal Island. That resort was just breathtaking. I'd love to return to the Islands again.

hi , I was surprise to hear americans were welcome so much in the phillipines . usually us americans are hated so much in all the countries because of our arrogance and ignorance of other cultures . I usually where a Canadian flag pin on my shirt so people will treat me good where ever I travel . I suggest when you travel to do the same . I am never ignored in any country even if there is a language barrier . Just a tip for us under educated ,arrogant ,ignorant american that don't have a clue about other countries , not even our own .

I was so excited to find out about my old alma mater, which is Assumption Antipolo, where I graduated 7th grade. I really want to find out what happened to my friends. I've been here in the States for almost 8 years now, and I've been trying to reunite with some of them, but to no avail. Maybe you guys can help me look for my old friends in Assumption Antipolo. I can remember a few names, such as Veronica Romero, Cheryl Tantoy, Carmina Penalosa, Yolanda, Emilyn, PiVi Vallerte, and the Canlas sisters. If you hear of anything about them or anything about Assumption Antipolo, maybe you guys could e-mail me. I really want to know what's been going on with their lives. Thanks.

I enjoyed your humorous web page. If you do not mind can I use your webpage as a source in my talk about the Philippines? I am Filipina studying computer information systems in GA&SU and I find very little info about the Philippines. If I find some, they are very negative or indecent. I actually come from Baguio so it is so funny to see how a foreigner see things. Terry

The Philippines is the most intricate country in the Southeast (of Asia). This is where blending of East and West cultures are well-set. You don't have to imagine how colorful is the culture of the people that lives here. If you happen to visit the mystical Mt Banahaw... you'll surely have a different experience of your lifetime. This universal haven of spirituality is a great place to experience. Its unique rainforest posture was preserved throughout the years... you'll simply love to see the site and experience the adventure. For good tour of the place contact Mon Jocson of University of the Philippines(Diliman, Q.C.)

This is for Debbie Fleming. I don't think the name of the cemetery or memorial you have provided is a correct one. Your best bet is to contact the American Embassy, Roxas Boulevard, Manila, Philippines. They should be able to provide you with information as to where exactly your Uncle Irvin is buried, assuming he was a U.S. citizen. To get the APO address for the American Embassy in Manila, you need to check the State Department website. Just curious, was your Uncle Irvin a member of the U.S. armed forces who died in the Philippines during the Philippine-American War (1899-1902), or during World War II?

I do give you folks credit for taking the challenge from Lani to see the Philippines for yourself. Credit also for putting together this website, those pics are indeed worth a thousand words...your first hand insight into the cultural oddities...you sound a lil bit critical rather than attempting to enjoy the "adventure"...you must remember that all that experience is what Philippines is all about...your vacation was a good break from the tornado alley of the American heartland...having been to OKlahoma many times on logistical visits at Tinker AFB...As you look back at your trip, I am almost sure that you chuckle at all the observations you shared... altho they were your own impressions, I can assure you that some of them may not be true...Philippines is one country that can win your heart for its genuine hospitality, simple yet scenic lifestyle, pristine countryside, rain forest and exotic beaches...thanks for all the effort...by the way, come back and visit the country..soon !!!

"How do the geese know when to fly to the sun? who tells them the seasons? How do we know when it is time to move on? As with the migrant birds, so surely with us; there is a voice within. If only we would listen to it when it tell us so certainly when to go into the unknown..." Congratulations to all of you who venture into a foreign land and find the goodness and the best in what must be a daunting foray by the first-timers. And to all of you who see nothing but the negative aspects of another culture, I feel very sorry for you and what you're missing.

I seen your pictures on the web and I thought that they were spectaclar. The reason why I thought that they were so good is that I myself lived in the philipines for nine months as a missionary. Some of the places that you took pictures of, I was also there. I lived in a barrio by Cawayan Isabella for time, so I know what life is like in the Phillipines. Well anyway thanks for the nice pictures.

Great descriptions about the Philippines. As you know, my husband (American, my daughter and I went to the Philippines. We did not get all those vaccines that you mentioned. We spent fifteen days and nothing happened to both of my husband and daughter. With your descriptions about hotels, yes some of them are really bad but if you stayed in Makati even not the 5 stars hotel is fine. We stayed at the Charter House, the service was good, there was hot water and enough towels for the three of us. The price was right. We never had a problem with the waiters/waitresses. I am sorry that you had some bad experiences. I am planning to go back in the Phils. with my daughter sometimes in the year 2000 to visit my family. Also, about chocolates, you can buy same chocolates you have here such as M & M, Peanut Butter cups, Snicker bar,etc in big Department Stores of Supermarket like Shoemart, Rustans. They carry all imported chocolate candies. I think you missed that part. You can also buy there delicious apples same what we have in the USA. I think you still missed a lot of things. Have you noticed, the waterpark, south of Manila. There are also Hot springs resorts not too far from Manila. That is a nice place to go swimming. Also the Pagsanjan Falls, that's another great one to see. You can take a canoe going to the Falls. They called it "Shooting the Rapids". Hope this will help you more. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Your photographs of the colorful, ubiquitous jeepney with an image of the Virgin Mary on the dashboard and/or rosary hanging on the rear-view mirror, its daredevil sun-burned driver with a towel slung over his shoulders playing tapes of the latest American import; the elegant St. Augustine church (just one of thousands of churches in this predominantly Roman Catholic Asian country); of beckoning provincial scenes from the beaches of Palawan, across hot, humid, and dusty lowland mostly unpaved roads, to the rice terraces of cool Banawe; of fruits and (unrefrigerated) beef in open air markets with flies swarming about; of the nipa hut; of the sari-sari store (a neighborhood convenience store and perhaps the only place on earth where one can buy a few drops of vinegar, a clove of garlic, a can of sardines or Spam (a breakfast treat)), a stick of cigarette separately, or all, on credit; no, I'll take that back -- one can buy a stick of cigarette, a piece of chewing gum, or a hand rag made of dress remnants to wipe your perspiring face and hands made sticky by the combination of dust, heat, and vehicle exhaust fumes while sitting in a jeepney trapped in a horrendous traffic jam from those little entrepreneurs hanging by the rails until the next traffic stop; your observations about Filipino cultural oddities such as pointing with the lips, calling waiters with a PPPPSSSSSSSSSTTT, same genders walking arm in arm in public; your vivid description about your "shocking" introduction to the gastronomical enjoyment of the embryonic duck called "balut"(a delicacy); of the lidless, toilet-paper-less "comfort rooms" (public rest rooms); your experiences aboard the jeepney while delicately interacting with native co-passengers and the driver while counting the HOURS getting from Quiapo to Baclaran for instance, a distance of no more than 3 kilometers; your experiences in a restaurant getting an egg and cheese separately rather than together; in exchanging your dollars in the "black market" that abound near 5-star hotels; your experiences haggling with the sales clerks in Quiapo "sa ilalim ng tulay" while purchasing souvenir items for your co-workers back in the States; and finally, your kind description of the friendliness and hospitality of a thousand Lanis out there, on behalf of everyone who find the Philippines a beautiful country, I thank you and WELCOME TO THE PHILIPPINES!

i am a retired us navy combat veteran, who happens to reside in and owns a ranch in central luzon. i think that ur web site is a crock of shit. sounds to me like a bunch of american nationalistic bullshit, perpetuating the myth that the 'good ole' usa' and the accompanying '1st world' attitudes towards the '3rd world', somehow reside in harmony with each other. fact is the good ole' usa exports more drugs, weapons, warfare and biologically hazardous waste materials than any other nation in the history of this planet. unfortunately 'perhaps', most of this garbage that the usa dumps out of its reptilian underbelly is found in the nations of the tropical belt today. the perpetuation of this 'tourist' bullshit myth only distracts the real masses of this beautiful planet from focusing on who is the true enemy, the true 'satan' if you prefer, of the human race today. it is in fact the united states of america, 270-ish million souls consuming over 25% of the planet's energy budget. respectfully yours, stephen william haise USN (Ret)

Mabuhay! Congratulations on a great site. My wife is a Filipina and we have travelled around Luzon extensively over the years, mainly around Baguio and Illocos Norte where we have some good friends. One of my most memorable visits was when we were taken to see the body of Ferdinand Marcos in the private place of rest built by Imelda. I still have the souvenir T-shirt that I was obliged to buy from the caretaker who allowed us inside. Good luck to you all.

It's been several years since I've been in the phillippines. I am a pure-blood Filipina and raised here in the states. My parents would take me there to visist our relatives, and i should say that P I is a very beautiful country. Although i had a hard time adjusting to culture shock i really had a wonderful time. The people are very friendly and seemed to stare at my brunnette hair all the time. I don't think they liked me too well wearing shorts. But duh, it was 90 degrees back when we were there.

Aloha! I would like to share my adventure in the Island of the Philippines during my reign. I am a mixture of spanish, chinese and filipino but I still carry the strong cultural values and tradition of a true FILIPINA. I was born in Bacarra Ilocos Norte and moved to Hawaii during my early teens. My first visit occured in 1991 when I was crown Miss Hawaii Filipina. This prestigious title allowed me to represent the Filipino's in Hawaii as an Ambasador of Goodwill. My visit was not only filled with amusement but filled with a goal, goal to help and provide relief to the people that got affected by the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. I felt the people's pain as I saw the after effect of this disaster. Although the bus ride was a bit shaky I was able to do my duty. Our tour group didn't see much of Pangasinan but because we had a set schedule to meet the Mayor in Baguio City (Mayor Bugnosen). I again handed him a disaster relief check for the people that were involve in the earthquake tragedy. These were the most fulfilling experiences that I encountered in my native land. The fun came after the other when the Mayor in Baguio took us for a tour in their City. I enjoyed Camp John Hay, Philippine Military Academy, Burnham Park, ohh what a refreshing sight. I had such a wonderful time in Laoag City where I was a part of their parade. There were lots of games , food, you name it and they will have it for you. We stayed at Fort Ilocandia Hotel. Their beaches were beautiful just like Maui. I got to eat my favorite food "EMPANADA, balatong, and kare-kare at Bario Fiesta." I felt so good inside when I finally got to step to my hometown Bacarra. The people are too hospitable. They honored my presence by throwing a big town party for me at my high school alma mater. That was quite emotional but deep inside I was very happy to be back to my hometown. We also took a tour in San Pablo, Laguna. I got to ride the Calesa and eat my food while my feet is under a running water. I can't recall the name of this place but it sure was exquisite. During my last few days of my visit I got to spend it in Manila touring the Malacanang Palace, photo shooting with MOD magazine, Bannawag, Philppine Graphics ect. To end my trip we took a stop by at the flea market....baklaran was too much for me but it was an adventure. You'll never know what is out there if you don't allow yourself to be adventurous. "One does not succeed by dreaming but by doing..." MAHALO to you all who made my trip fun and rewarding. The memory will remain in my heart. To all my kababayan...Maraming Salamat Po!

Great Website !!! Mabuhay !!! I have visited the Phil's twice in the last 2 years...and I am preparing for the 3rd visit now. Luzon has lots of tradition, cultural heritage, fiestas, museums...Lots of beautiful islands in the Visayas...really exotic jungle areas in Mindanao. My 2nd flight from Manila to Mindanao on a clear day was so beautiful...I could see literally thousands of islands from the plane. The beaches in many areas are just fantastic with warm, clear ocean water to swim in. And...ooohhhhh how I miss all the fresh fruit, seafood, lechon pork and naito chicken, and those bamboo huts with thatched roofs, and smiling, happy people. Kumusta ka !! to all those nice, hospitable people who helped me find my way around, and advised me on best places to visit. I love all of you.
