Our Arrival In Manila

2/20/95

We arrived at Naia Ninoy International airport Manilla, Philippine at 9:30 AM local time. There we met Lani, her brother Jojo, Gina, and her boyfriend Tad. We took a taxi to Josephine's restaurant in Manila. Kurt and I were concerned about the effects of jet lag, but were pleasantly surprised to find the effects to be limited to one direction of travel only. We had no problem staying awake for the remainder of the day.

Our next stop was Nayong Philipino, a cultural museum of sorts with examples of the local countryside. We spent about an hour looking around. The native houses were small stores that sold hand-made crafts. It was interesting but not very informative.

From there, we went back to the airport for a domestic flight to Peurta Princessa on the island of Palawan. The tickets cost P3000 or $120 US each way. This was a little expensive but it saved some valuable vacation time. We had to go through the X-ray machines at the airport several times. They seemed to be very heavy on security. You are not even allowed in the airport if you don't show a plane ticket.

We arrived at Peurto Princessa after dark. A power failure at the airport caused confusion for several minutes. After clearing the airport, we loaded everything up and headed for the Bajao Inn. We looked it over in the dark but didn't like the room that was available. Kurt, Lani and I loaded up on a local tricycle and headed to find another hotel. We looked at two other places and finally decided on the Emerald Plaza Hotel.
